Portugal’s Wild Coast

a Yoga and Adventure RetreaT May 24-May 30, 2020

We are thrilled to once again travel across the Atlantic to unplug and explore a stunning stretch of coastal Portugal. Join us on a magical 275 acre farm just 2 hours south of Lisbon designed specifically for Yoga Retreats. Indoor and outdoor yoga shalas host daily practice, a private freshwater lake and inviting dock to bask in the sun, oversized hammocks for afternoon siestas, a circus of goats, sheep, puppies and free range peacocks to greet you each day. Located near the charming villages of Zambujiera do Mar and Vila Nova Milfontes in the Alentejo region, known for its long stretches of untouched coastline and white-washed villages. The ocean, with bluffs, trails and sandy coves, is a 10-minute drive or a scenic bike ride away.

In the Alentejo region, also known as The Costa Vicentina is protected by a natural reserve and development has been restricted to preserve traditional architecture and small farms. The Vicentina Coast Natural Park runs about 100 km down the coast and is known for its strong and wild character and landscapes of breathtaking majesty. The coast is ideal for swimming, surfing, and world-class hiking along the gorgeous miles of trails.

The YogA

Erin and Meg will offer 2 vinyasa yoga classes daily, accessible to all-levels of experience. Props and mats included. Classes will range from dynamic vinyasa flow to slow flow and workshop style classes, breaking down asana and transitions to gain deeper insights into your practice. Special workshop classes will be offered optionally during the week. Goals with Soul, HIIT Yoga Fusion, Yoga for a Happy Back and Inferno Hot Pilates depending on the flow of the day. In between time will be open to play or relax on the beautiful grounds or explore nearby beaches and villages.

Erin, with more than 500 hours of yoga training with Shiva Rea and Schuyler Grant, combines playful sequences, alignment, poetry, curated music, meditation and breath work for very experiential classes. Meg, with 16 years as a physical therapist and 500 hours of yoga training with Janet Stone, Darren Main and Mark Morford, integrates the eastern practices of yoga with western medicine to align the body. You can count on a fun flow with groovy tunes to serenade you. Together Erin and Meg embody the yogic principles of steadiness and ease or alignment and heart.

You’ll enjoy three delicious farm-to-table meals each day. The food is local, with most of the produce coming from either the on-site garden or a nearby farm. This food is prepared with love and exudes the local deliciousness inherent to this region.

A typical breakfast includes eggs, local fruit, Greek yogurt, homemade granola, local honey, homemade jam, slow-baked bread and a daily tonic. Lunch is often a bowl: a base of ancient grains like farro topped with avocado, roasted veggies, nori or mixed greens. For dinner, expect Indian or Japanese inspired curries, Mediterranean stews, legumes, rice, salad and dessert. There is even an outdoor, wood-fired Pizza oven.

Accommodations for dietary restrictions such as gluten free and vegan can be made.

The Exploring

Your experience includes three exciting excursions off-site.

You’ll stand in awe experiencing the famed Fisherman’s Trail. Guide led, this hike meanders through stunning coastal terrain with blooming camomile, herbs, succulents of every color and unrivaled Atlantic vistas.

Next up a day trip to the Algarve, where you’ll be guided by boat through the picturesque Begali Caves. This is the most popular rock formation of Portugal.

To be in this region is incomplete without a Frupor Farm wine tour. You’ll be sipping award winning Vicentino wines with the wine makers while exploring the local terroir of the vineyards.

These excursions are included but you’re free to opt out and enjoy the solitude of a restful day at the ranch. A handful of bicycles are available, skinny dip in the pristine freshwater lake, or simply daydream in an oversized hammock. Praia de Malhao - a fabulous untouched beach, perfect for surfing, SUP, swimming, or sunbathing is a 10 minute drive.

Super comfortable, clean and elegant rooms open onto an outdoor courtyard. Several rooms open to raised vegetable beds where peacocks roam freely each afternoon.

Each room has either two single beds, that can be situated apart as a twin or close together as a double, or three single beds. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to chill, read a book or sit and chat. Oh, and did we mention soft sheets?
