An Adventure Retreat
Portugal’s Wild Coast
May 28 - June 3, 2019
THE ADVENTURE AWAITS!
Join me and Megan Gray of Urban Yoga Charleston on a 275 acre coastal farm and retreat center in the breathtaking Portuguese Alentejo region just two hours south of Lisbon. Located near the charming fishing village of Zambujiera del Mar this coast is known for its long stretches of untouched beaches and charming white-washed villages. At the very tip of southwest Portugal lies Costa Vicentina, the last wild coast in Europe, an untouched surfers enclave where crashing waves drown out the hubbub of the world.
Experience pure magic with oversized hammocks, freshwater lakes and ocean breezes that absorb the day. Yoga, hiking, surfing, farm to table meals, local wines, untouched beaches and quaint local villages of the southern Atlantic. The ocean, with bluffs, trails, and sandy coves, is a 10 minute drive, or a lovely bike ride.
Each day will begin with yoga practice under the canopy of old growth pines. Each day will end with world class wines and inspired Portuguese dinners served alfresco. The in between time will include guided activities and plenty of unscheduled time to meander at your own pace.
Erin and Meg will offer 2 all level yoga classes each day. Flow in the morning and more yin/vin in the afternoon. Props and mats are included. Special workshop classes will be offered optionally during the week. Desire Mapping:Goals with Soul and HIIT Yoga Fusion with Erin and Yoga for a Happy Back and Inferno Hot Pilates with Meg. Days will be spacious or if you’re inspired to join optional guided hiking, local wine tasting and surf lessons at additional costs.
Erin Harrington is a foodie turned health foodie, mother of three, extensive globetrotter throughout 6 continents, certified E-RYT 500 yoga teacher with 20 years of experience. She’s also a certified Functional Medicine Health Coach and Integrative Nutritionist. She believes in the power of travel to broaden our perspective, live in the moment and value experience over things. Travel brings us back to ourselves and what really matters.
Meg Gray, founder of Urban Yoga, is E-RYT 200/ RYT-500 and has been teaching yoga 6 years. She has been practicing physical therapy for 16 years, integrating the eastern practices of yoga within western medicine’s understanding of the body. One of her greatest passions is exploring new places, 14 countries and counting (many solo), and immersing herself in the local culture. Meg knows how to find the best hikes, best eats, best shops, and drinking all the wine. Life’s motto: You can’t see tomorrow with yesterday’s eyes.
A nourishing meal and a delicious feast don’t need to be exclusive of one another. The food is local, with most produce coming from the farm or another nearby. From a sustainability standpoint, there will not be red meat or pork. Breakfast includes fresh eggs, local fruit, Greek yogurt, homemade granola, local honey, homemade jam, slow baked bread and a daily tonic. Lunch is often a bowl; a base of ancient grains like farro, topped with avocado, roasted veggies, nori, or mixed greens. For dinner, expect Indian and Japanese curries, Mediterranean stews, legumes, rice, salad and dessert. One night we’ll host a beach picnic Portugese fish bake and explore the local cafe scene. There is also an outdoor, wood-fired Pizza oven. Accommodation for dietary restrictions can be made in advance.
Some bikes will be available to us to explore the local area. You can join the staff to collect eggs from the crazy chickens, skinny dip in the pristine freshwater lake or simply daydream in the oversized hammocks. Just a 10 minute drive to the untouched beach of Praia de Malhao - perfect for surfing, swimming and sunbathing. There is world-class hiking nearby on the famed Costa Vincentina trail and plenty small charming towns for shopping and dining on the way. The charming seafront village of Vila Nova de Milfontes is also just 10 minutes drive.
Comfortable, clean and elegant rooms open to an outdoor courtyard. Each with either two single beds, that can be situated apart as a twin or close together as a double, or three single beds. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to chill, read a book or sit and chat. Oh, and did we mention soft sheets? WIFI is available in the public areas of the casa.
